Policing is hard work and can take a toll on a person’s physical and mental health. At NPD, we have created a culture that supports the health and well-being of all of our employees.
Peer Support Team
Our Peer Support Team is comprised of officers who received specialized training and guidance in the recognition of stress-related problems and the recommended response. Team members provide information and personal guidance to fellow employees who may be experiencing stress-related problems.
Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD)
A Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD) team is easily accessible and readily available to personnel. This debriefing is a psycho-educational process and does not necessarily take the place of professional counseling if needed. The purpose is to provide a structured environment where an employee can ventilate about the reaction they have experienced. The CISD team is called after events such as serious injury, suicide, or death of a co-worker, a near death experience, any use of lethal force by department personnel, or any other traumatic call that is likely to have impacted responders.
Individual Counseling
There are multiple service providers in the area who we work with to provide one on one counseling to employees.
Physical Fitness Center
The state of the art police building includes an employee gym that is available for all employees to use. Our fitness center includes cardiovascular and strength-building equipment.
Annual Fitness Test (optional)
Each year we hold an annual fitness test that is optional for all police officers. Officers who participate and pass receive a Physical Fitness Award at our annual awards ceremony.
