May 24, 2023: NPD Exceptional Duty Medal, Officer Andrew Kohl

On January 12, 2022 Northampton Public Safety received a call for a man in cardiac arrest on the ice of the twin ponds in the Meadows Area of the city. Dispatcher Lisa Day did an excellent job of keeping the son in law of the victim calm and focused and gave him instructions on how to perform CPR. Officer Kohl responded to the scene and located the men on the ice, which was unstable and cracking under his feet. He was able to pull the victim to shore, determine that the victim had no pulse and performed CPR, until NFR arrived and took over medical care. The victim was eventually transported to Baystate Medical Center and ultimately listed in stable condition. For his actions, Officer Kohl was awarded the Exceptional Duty Medal.
