NORTHAMPTON, Massachusetts (October 02, 2018)- The Northampton Police and Fire Departments will hold our 3rd annual youth fishing program, in partnership with Mass Wildlife and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Cops & Bobbers, Hooks & Ladders Program. This program is designed to teach kids to fish, connect them to the outdoors, and foster positive relationships in their community and with law enforcement and safety professionals.

The FREE event is open to children ages 14 and under and takes place on Saturday October 27, 2018 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Willow Pond in Look Park. The park’s entry fee will be waived that day for anyone attending the fishing event.

Willow Pond will be stocked with trout from the Berkshire National Fish Hatchery. Participants can bring their own equipment, or can borrow fishing equipment provided by Mass Wildlife’s Angler Education Program. Bait will be provided for all participants.

Members of the Northampton Police and Fire Departments, Federal and State Wildlife Officers, and other partnering agencies will be at the event helping and teaching kids to fish
All participating youth will be entered into a raffle. Raffle prizes include fishing related items and other age appropriate prizes.

Thanks to our additional sponsors of the event, whose generosity will help provide prizes, free park entrance, and volunteer help throughout the day: Northampton Rotary, Look Park, Hampshire Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Trout Unlimited. The partnering agencies involved in the program have a common connection in our belief that young people need to spend time outdoors, make natural connections within their community, and create positive and lasting relationships with community members.

Community members can register for the event through the Northampton Police Department’s website. Participants must fill out a registration form by either downloading it from the department’s website and bringing it the day of the event or fill out the form on site the day of the event.
