NORTHAMPTON, Massachusetts (November 20, 2017)- The Northampton Police Department, in conjunction with Project ChildSafe, the nationwide firearms safety education program, will distribute free firearms safety locks. These locks will be available at the Northampton Police Department Records Bureau, Monday through Friday from 8-4pm. Project ChildSafe, a program developed by the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), educates community members about safe firearms handling practices and works to reduce firearms accidents in local communities. Project ChildSafe has distributed more than 37 million firearms safety kits throughout the country since 2003. The program is supported by the U.S. Department of Justice Assistance and the firearms industry.

Partnering with Project ChildSafe allows the Northampton Police Department to participate in the national effort to promote firearms safety education to all gun owners. The program distributes gun locks and safety kits to all 50 states and five U.S. territories.
