Fishing Derby To Be Held at Look Park

NORTHAMPTON, Massachusetts (August 25, 2017)- The Northampton Police Department has organized its 2nd Annual NPD Kids Fishing Derby that will be hosted by Look Park (300 N. Main St., Florence) at Willow Pond on October 8th, 2017 from 10am to 2pm. Look Park has waived park entry fees for this event.
Registration forms can be downloaded from the Northampton Police Department’s website ( along with the official rules and poster for the event. Registration forms should be completed and brought to the fishing derby on October 8th, between 9:30am and 10am. The derby is free of charge and open to children ages 14 and under. There will be three age categories for the purpose of prizes (3-6 years old, 7-10 years old, and 11-14 years old).
The pond will be stocked with 500 Rainbow Trout from “Hy-On-A-Hill Trout Hatchery” in Plainfield, NH and paid for by the Northampton Police Association, New England Police Benevolent Locals 186 & 187. The unions are comprised of police officers with the Northampton Police Department. Participants should bring fishing poles equipped and ready to fish, as well as bait.
Trophies and prizes will be awarded to 1st and 2nd place for “First Fish” and “Heaviest Fish” in each age category. Last year community members and businesses generously donated funds and prizes for the derby. These donations made it possible to provide more prizes to the kids who attended and are welcomed! Donations should be directed to Sergeant Moody and checks made payable to the Northampton Police Association with “Fishing Derby” in the memo field.
Doug Cameron of North East Bass Anglers and the 2017 Bass Federation Massachusetts State Champion, has been invited to attend the event and will be available to meet kids, sign autographs and display his bass fishing boat. ###
