NORTHAMPTON, Massachusetts (May 05, 2017)- Chief Jody D. Kasper announces that on June 5-7, 2017, the Northampton Police Department will undergo an assessment for re-accreditation. A team of assessors assigned by the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission will determine if the department meets established standards for best law enforcement practices, in the areas of management, administration, operations and support services, so as to be recognized for professional excellence amongst other law enforcement agencies. In order to be re-accredited, the department must demonstrate compliance with 257 mandatory standards and a minimum of 75 optional standards. Northampton Police Department was first accredited in 2002, being the sixth police department in the Commonwealth to achieve accreditation status at that time. The department was last re-accredited in 2014.
