NORTHAMPTON FIRE AND POLICE NOTIFY RESIDENTS OF SUSPICIOUS FIRES
Fires Reported in North Street and King Street Area

 

NORTHAMPTON, Massachusetts (March 22, 2016)-  Between March 12 and 21, 2016, members of Northampton Fire Rescue and the Northampton Police Department responded to five reports of suspicious fires in the King Street and North Street area.  The following is a list of the fire incidents:
March 12, 2016, 7:18 AM:  A resident of Bates Street reported that 3-4 clumps of dried ornamental grass had been burned and were still smoldering.
March 12, 2016, 10:45 AM:  A resident on North Street reported that a numberof their ornamental grass clumps had been burned.
March 15, 2016, 5:52 PM:  A person living in a tent along the railroad tracks in the King Street area reported that his tent and its contents had been burned.
March 17, 2016, 7:25 PM:  A fire was reported  at 137 King Street along the side of the building.  The contents of a barrel had been lit on fire.  Damage was confined to the exterior of the building.
March 21, 2016, 2:00 PM:  A resident of North Street reported that several clumps of ornamental grass had been burned.   
These incidents are under investigation by the Northampton Fire Investigation Unit, which is comprised of both Northampton Fire Rescue and Police department personnel.  Investigators are actively involved in these investigations.
 Public Safety personnel are asking residents to survey their property for dry/dead vegetation that is in close proximity to structures.  As a precaution, residents should remove dry leaves, grass, and brush away from their homes, as they are easily ignitable.  Also, please report any suspicipous activity or persons to the Northampton Police Department at (413)-587-1100.
